The first course in the series introduces the scientific basis of known sex and gender differences and discusses their influence on health outcomes and illness. Participants will explore the implications that sex and gender differences have on policy, research, and health care and learn the relevant Federal research regulations.

Course 2: Sex and Gender Differences in Health and Behavior

The second course applies the basic concepts presented in Course 1 to specific conditions and organ systems. Participants will learn about sex and gender differences in the course of disease and consider issues that arise when treating and managing these conditions. The course presents a research methodology framework to incorporate sex and gender differences in the design of studies.

Course 3: The Influence of Sex and Gender on Disease Expression and Treatment

The third course provides the participants with an overall understanding of how sex and gender impact function of select organ systems as well as disease progression and treatment options. Participants will learn how sex and gender differences are important in a range of organ systems and diseases and how an understanding of these differences can lead to improved outcomes for both women and men.
