Clinical Applications of Genomics : Conclusion
Future research on clinical applications of genetics needs to ascertain not only the accuracy of genetic tests in detecting or predicting disease, but also the benefits and harms of the gene-based tests and treatments. This knowledge is needed to develop and appropriately implement evidence-based clinical guidelines. In addition, there is a need to address the issues raised by the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetic testing before one can contemplate the routine use of gene-based clinical applications.
