Upon completing this lesson, the participant will be able to:

  • State two examples that illustrate the need to consider potential sex differences in human studies of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
  • State at least three basic concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
  • Explain sex-specific aspects of pharmacokinetics and factors that can influence absorption, metabolism, and excretion of drugs
  • Explain sex-specific clinical implications of antidepressants, psychotropic agents, and cardiovascular drugs
  • Explain how drug metabolism may be affected by use of oral contraceptives, pregnancy, the menstrual cycle, and menopause
