Many of the influences of sex hormones on human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry are pervasive and well documented, down to the molecular mechanisms by which androgen and estrogen control the expression of many genes. However, at another level, basic cellular processes differ between human males and females simply as a result of the genetic differences that define them.

This lesson describes the nature and extent of genetic differences between males and females (as distinct from hormonal differences) and explores how these differences can and do affect the basic biochemistry of male and female cells.
